Office Administration - Legal

SHERIDAN CERTIFICATE

Are you considering a career as a legal office assistant? The Office Administration-Legal Sheridan Certificate Program offers specialized education to prepare you for a career as a legal office assistant, one of the valuable members of the legal office team. Legal support professionals require a solid grounding in legal basics, a high degree of attention to detail and the capacity to perform well in a demanding work environment. This program will prepare you for the challenges of an entry-level position.

Acquire legal practice and procedures in different areas of law with practical, hands-on training in specialized and up-to-date legal software applications such as: Teraview, PCLaw, DivorceMate and ACL. In addition, emphasis is placed on the everyday demands of the job: confidentiality, professional ethics, and demonstrating initiative.

As a graduate of the Office Administration - Legal program, you will work as part of a team in a law or paralegal office, and with legal departments of corporations, insurance firms, financial institutions, trust companies, Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments, court office, and general business environments.

Sheridan’s program is designed to provide students with the challenges and skills necessary for advancement in the exciting, fast-paced, ever-changing field of law.

Admission Requirements

If your English language skills are not at a Grade 12 level, you should take COMM19997 Basic Communications Skills and/or COMM19999 Essential Communication Skills before starting the program.

Note: If your keyboarding speed is less than 30 nwpm, and you have little or no experience using Windows, you should take OADM70000 Computer Basics and Keyboarding before APPL70051 Word 2007, Introduction. OADM70002 Legal Office Procedures - Distance Learning is not considered equivalent to LAWS11198 Introduction to Legal Office Procedures and will not be allowed as a substitute.

Information Sessions provide an opportunity to meet with Program Coordinators to ask questions, receive advice, and make informed decisions enabling you to reach your academic goals. These sessions are available free of charge and will start promptly at the time indicated. No appointment is necessary.
